With apologies to Paul McCartney and Garth Nix. The introduction is adapted from passages in Sabriel and Lirael.
(content note: horrible things done to animals (fictional))
Gore Crows... a necromancer traps quite ordinary crows, killing them with ritual and ceremony, then infuses the bodies with the splintered fragments of a single Dead spirit. Now they are truly carrion birds — guided by a shattered but single intelligence, they fly by force of Free Magic, and kill by force of numbers. But what kind of blasphemous incantation could endow these dead birds with such a terrible un-life? Do you dare to hear it?
(then it's just "Blackbird", or perhaps it should be done in a minor key like this.)
