On a fresh May morning, if you log on to the Game

The world will look familiar, but it won't be quite the same

The Devs have pushed an update — they do it every year —

And with every major version they try not to break immersion

But those who've seen the May Tricks know things aren't as they appear...

Come every noob and hacker, come every punk and witch

We'll trip 'til night becomes the day and try to find a glitch

The Game has been updated with a major version patch

So we're off into the greenwood to see what we can catch

 

We punks call them the May Tricks, 'cause they're quite the trick to find

But if you keep both eyes open, and you keep an open mind

You might spot a ring of mushrooms where the ground's a trampoline

So bounce until you're beaten, but the shrooms should not be eaten

Or you'll clip straight through the floor and all your hair will turn bright green

John tried to do a speedrun all the way around the town

But he didn't do it sunwise, so his trousers fell right down!

 

Anne took three hawthorn petals, and stuck them in her ear

She could understood the birds and bees, but all that she could hear

Came out delayed by ... half a second, more or less

That's not the weirdest ever — the Devs must think they're clever

But why the Game behaves this way is anybody's guess

Pat turned their jacket inside-out and rang the steeple bell

For a moment there were two of them, and they both looked quite unwell!

 

To understand the May Tricks, here's what you have to know:

We're only player characters inside an MMO

The Devs work hard to patch it — May Eve is always when

There'll be lots of bugs and glitches, so come all you punks and witches

We'll try to find them all before the Devs can patch again
