A musical setting of a poem written for me by a dear friend during my year of mental crisis.

listen to this song
/ Am - G - / - - Am - /
The fire knows your name
The fire knows this game
The fire tells you in your heart
That you are both the same
And I am sitting here waiting for you.
Birth-twin, brother, fire-fallen
You build a ladder to the sun
And now the sun is inside you.
/: F G Am - / G - Am - :/
And all I can do is sink my fingers in
Waiting for the phoenix changes to begin
You are infected with the language of the sun
We pull the burning thorns from underneath your skin
And you change. You've always changed,
The sun is just a part of who you are
And you change, for life is change
And the pain is just a part of who you are.
And you made a hundred patterns but those patterns burnt you down
You bled a thousand comet trails before you hit the ground
And those comets are in all of us, inside our eyes like sand
The heat of your blaze melting them, so we could understand
Looking through the lens you gave us, at the blazon on your brow
There are just a thousand questions, start with "what do we do now?"
Do we try to look inside you for the fire that is gone
When any bit of ember might be waiting to go on?
And I am sitting here waiting for you.
Birth-twin, brother, fire-fallen
You build a ladder to the sun
And now the sun is inside you.
And you change. You've always changed,
The sun is just a part of who you are
And you change, for life is change
And the pain is just a part of who you are.
The fire knows your name
The fire knows this game
The fire tells you in your heart
That you are both the same
